Testing your Frontier connection

Frontier has been part of Verizon since January 20, 2026, and Verizon has said Frontier Fiber customers will move to Fios over time. On Frontier Fiber, every tier is symmetrical: upload equals download. Some areas still have Frontier's older DSL service over copper lines, with much lower speeds.

This test detects your provider automatically and measures download, upload, ping, jitter and latency under load against the nearest server on Cloudflare's network. Enter your plan speed under the result to see the percentage you really get.

Fibre tiers as listed by Frontier in autumn 2026; plan names and availability may change as accounts move to Verizon Fios. Speeds are maximum wired speeds. Checked on 31 October 2026; tiers change and vary by address, so confirm on the Frontier website.

What result should you expect?

On Fiber 1 Gig, a wired test from a computer with a gigabit port should show about 900 to 940 Mbps in both directions. On 2 Gig and above, you need a multi-gig port and cable to go past 940 Mbps. On DSL, compare with the speed on your broadband label rather than with fibre figures.

Common reasons for slow Frontier speeds

  • Testing over Wi-Fi only: on fibre, Wi-Fi is almost always the bottleneck. Read fibre slow on Wi-Fi, fast on Ethernet.
  • Gigabit port on a multi-gig plan: a 1 Gbps port caps 2, 5 or 7 Gig at about 940 Mbps. See Ethernet cable categories.
  • Upload much lower than download on fibre: not normal on Frontier Fiber. Test over a cable, then report it.
  • Still on DSL: speed falls with line length. See speed up slow DSL.

Before contacting Frontier support

  1. Restart the router and the optical network terminal (ONT) if you have one.
  2. Run three wired tests at different hours and note both directions.
  3. Check for outages in your Frontier or Verizon account before calling.
  4. If speeds stay below your plan, check for traffic throttling, then contact support with your saved results.

Frequently asked questions

Is Frontier now Verizon?

Yes. Verizon completed its acquisition of Frontier on January 20, 2026. Verizon has said Frontier Fiber customers will be moved to Fios over the following months, without changing their current plan.

Is Frontier Fiber symmetrical?

Yes. Frontier Fiber plans advertise the same upload and download speed. A large gap on a wired test is worth reporting.

Why is my Frontier speed so low?

If you have Frontier DSL rather than fibre, low speeds are often due to the length of the copper line. On fibre, test over Ethernet first: the Wi-Fi is the usual culprit.
