Testing your Kinetic by Windstream connection
Kinetic is Windstream's home internet brand, sold in about 18 states, often in rural areas. Windstream is converting its copper network to fibre: Kinetic fibre plans are symmetrical and reach 2 Gig. In areas not yet upgraded, Kinetic still runs over DSL, with lower speeds that depend on line length.
This test detects your provider automatically and measures download, upload, ping, jitter and latency under load against the nearest server on Cloudflare's network. Enter your plan speed under the result to see the percentage you really get.
Kinetic by Windstream speeds by plan
| Plan | Download | Upload |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber 100 to 500 Mbps | 100 to 500 Mbps | same as download |
| Fiber 1 Gig | 1,000 Mbps | 1,000 Mbps |
| Fiber 2 Gig | 2,000 Mbps | 2,000 Mbps |
| DSL | up to 50 to 100 Mbps depending on the line | a few Mbps |
Kinetic's tiers and prices vary a lot from one area to another; check what is offered at your address. Checked on 31 October 2026; tiers change and vary by address, so confirm on the Kinetic by Windstream website.
What result should you expect?
On Kinetic Fiber 1 Gig with a gigabit port, a wired test should show about 900 to 940 Mbps both ways. On DSL, compare with the speed on your broadband label: a long line can deliver far less than the plan's maximum.

Common reasons for slow Kinetic by Windstream speeds
- Testing over Wi-Fi: test next to the router with a cable first.
- DSL distance: see speed up slow DSL.
- Old router on a fibre upgrade: if you moved from DSL to fibre, make sure the equipment was replaced too.
- Drop-outs: see internet keeps dropping.
Before contacting Kinetic support
- Restart the modem and wait a few minutes.
- Run wired tests at different hours and note both directions.
- Check Kinetic's service status before calling.
- If speeds stay below your plan, check for traffic throttling, then contact support with your saved results.

Frequently asked questions
Is Kinetic the same as Windstream?
Yes. Kinetic is the brand Windstream uses for its home internet service.
Is Kinetic fiber symmetrical?
Yes, Kinetic fibre plans advertise equal upload and download speeds. DSL plans do not.
How do I know if I have Kinetic fiber or DSL?
Your plan name and broadband label say so. On a wired test, an upload close to the download means fibre; an upload of a few Mbps means DSL.
