Testing your Telstra connection
Telstra is Australia's largest retailer. Its home internet runs mostly over the NBN, so your speed depends on your tier and your connection type, plus Telstra's own network. Telstra also sells 5G home internet, which varies more with the signal.
This test detects your provider automatically and measures download, upload, ping, jitter and latency under load against the nearest server on Cloudflare's network. Enter your plan speed under the result to see the percentage you really get.
Telstra speeds by plan
| Plan | Download | Upload |
|---|---|---|
| Basic / Standard (NBN 25 and 50) | 25 to 50 Mbps | 5 to 20 Mbps |
| Fast (NBN 100 or NBN 500 on fibre/HFC) | 100 to 500 Mbps | 20 to 50 Mbps |
| Superfast (NBN 750) | 750 Mbps | about 50 Mbps |
| Ultrafast (NBN 1000+, fibre/HFC) | up to 1,000 Mbps and more | up to 100 Mbps and more |
Telstra publishes a typical evening speed for each NBN plan; it is the best reference for your tests. Checked on 31 October 2026; tiers change and vary by address, so confirm on the Telstra website.
What result should you expect?
A wired evening test should be close to the typical evening speed of your Telstra plan. On 5G home internet, results depend on the signal and can change from hour to hour.

Common reasons for slow Telstra speeds
- Old tier on fibre or HFC: check you were moved to NBN 500 or faster.
- Copper line limits: see speed up slow DSL.
- Wi-Fi from the modem: compare with the Wi-Fi speed test.
- 5G placement: see 5G home internet vs fibre.
Before contacting Telstra support
- Restart the modem and NBN box.
- Run evening tests over Ethernet on several days.
- Check the My Telstra app for outages and run its line test.
- If speeds stay below your plan, check for traffic throttling, then contact support with your saved results.
