Testing your Verizon Fios connection

Verizon Fios is an all-fibre home internet service in parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Most tiers are symmetrical, and Verizon publishes the typical wired speeds and latency it measures for each plan. Verizon also sells 5G Home internet, which is a different, wireless service.

This test detects your provider automatically and measures download, upload, ping, jitter and latency under load against the nearest server on Cloudflare's network. Enter your plan speed under the result to see the percentage you really get.

Fios 2 Gig (select areas)1.5 to 2.3 Gbps average wiredup to about 2 Gbps

Figures are Verizon's published typical wired speeds. Multi-gig tiers are only offered at some addresses. Checked on 31 October 2026; tiers change and vary by address, so confirm on the Verizon Fios website.

What result should you expect?

A wired test on Fios 1 Gig should land around 900 Mbps down and 850 to 900 Mbps up. Latency to a nearby server is typically under 10 ms on fibre. On 2 Gig, only a multi-gig port can show more than 940 Mbps.

Common reasons for slow Verizon Fios speeds

  • Router or extender bottleneck: test plugged into the Fios router, not through an extender.
  • Old Ethernet cable or port: a result stuck around 94 Mbps means a 100 Mbps link. See Ethernet cable categories.
  • Red light on the ONT: the optical signal may be lost. Read red LOS light on a fibre router.
  • Confusing Fios with 5G Home: 5G Home speeds depend on signal and vary much more.

Before contacting Fios support

  1. Restart the router and, if needed, the ONT (the fibre box).
  2. Run three wired tests and note both directions.
  3. Check the My Fios app for outages.
  4. If speeds stay below your plan, check for traffic throttling, then contact support with your saved results.

Frequently asked questions

Is Verizon Fios symmetrical?

Fios 300 and 500 are symmetrical, and Fios 1 Gig delivers typical speeds of about 940 Mbps down and 880 Mbps up over a wired connection.

Why is my Fios speed lower over Wi-Fi?

Fibre delivers the full speed to the router; Wi-Fi then loses part of it with distance, walls and older devices. A wired test shows what the line really delivers.

Where can I see Verizon's typical speeds?

Verizon publishes typical speeds and latency on its broadband labels and its network performance page.
