Testing your WOW! connection
WOW! (WideOpenWest) sells internet in parts of the Midwest and Southeast, including Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Most homes are on its cable (DOCSIS 3.1) network, where the upload is far below the download. WOW! is building fibre in a growing number of towns, and its fibre plans are symmetrical, up to multi-gig in some areas.
This test detects your provider automatically and measures download, upload, ping, jitter and latency under load against the nearest server on Cloudflare's network. Enter your plan speed under the result to see the percentage you really get.
WOW! speeds by plan
| Plan | Download | Upload |
|---|---|---|
| Cable 300 to 600 Mbps | 300 to 600 Mbps | about 10 to 50 Mbps |
| Cable 1 Gig and 1.2 Gig | 1,000 to 1,200 Mbps | up to about 50 Mbps |
| Fiber 500 Mbps to 1 Gig | 500 to 1,000 Mbps | same as download |
| Fiber multi-gig (select areas) | up to 5,000 Mbps | same as download |
Tiers and upload speeds vary by market; WOW!'s broadband label for your address lists the exact typical speeds. Checked on 31 October 2026; tiers change and vary by address, so confirm on the WOW! website.
What result should you expect?
On a cable 1 Gig plan, a wired test from a gigabit port should show about 900 to 940 Mbps down and an upload in the tens of Mbps. On 1.2 Gig, only a 2.5 Gbps port can show more than 940 Mbps. On WOW! fibre, upload and download should be close.

Common reasons for slow WOW! speeds
- Small cable upload: calls freeze when someone uploads. Check latency under load.
- Gigabit port on 1.2 Gig: a 1 Gbps port caps the result at about 940 Mbps. See Ethernet cable categories.
- Evening slowdowns on cable: see internet slow in the evening.
- Wi-Fi from the gateway: compare a test next to it with one in your room using the Wi-Fi speed test.
Before contacting WOW support
- Restart the modem or gateway and wait for a steady online light.
- Run three wired tests at different hours and note both directions.
- Check WOW!'s service status or app before calling.
- If speeds stay below your plan, check for traffic throttling, then contact support with your saved results.

Frequently asked questions
Is WOW! cable or fiber?
Both. Most WOW! customers are on cable, and fibre is available in a growing number of towns. On a wired test, an upload close to the download means fibre; an upload of tens of Mbps means cable.
Why is my WOW! upload so slow?
Cable networks give most of their capacity to download, so a low upload is normal on WOW! cable tiers. Only WOW! fibre plans are symmetrical.
Why does WOW! 1.2 Gig show 940 Mbps?
That is the limit of a gigabit Ethernet port. To see more, test from a computer with a 2.5 Gbps port and a suitable cable.
